ARTIST STATEMENT

Growing up in Florida, I spent my childhood playing on it's sandy shores and beaches. A trip to Yosemite over 25 years ago, however, is what finally awakened my passion for nature. I fell in love with the West and began searching for ways to capture the majesty of the Western landscape through photography. Several years later, I immersed myself in an intense journey to learn everything I could about photography both technically and artistically. I quickly learned that this journey never ends, especially artistically.

Good photography is art. Good photography creates an emotional response from the viewer. When a photographer connects with nature in a manner that allows the photographer to incorporate all the amazing colors, textures, patterns, and lighting elements of the natural world into a technically correct image, what can be created is astonishing! Yes, there will always be documentary photographs of iconic landscapes that I too enjoy photographing. However, my appreciation for the commitment of time and skill necessary to go beyond documenting iconic landscapes and produce photographic art cannot be understated. Included on my web site are links to photographers who I believe exemplify photographic art and whose visions guide me in the field. Most of these photographers I have never met.

Today, I travel the country photographing landscapes and nature from Mountains to Sea Shores. Thanks to the West, I now appreciate the beauty of my native state, Florida, as well as the Western landscapes, hence the name Mountain to Sea Photography.
